Sometimes You Just HAVE To Laugh

You can tell when a kid is not ready for the weekend to be over! This afternoon, my youngest apparently fell asleep after school. I am in the kitchen making dinner (yes I do do that) and have several pots and pans going at one time. One of her friends calls and, without answering,  I shout upstairs for her to pick up the phone. All of a sudden she appears in the kitchen and begins to make her lunch for school tomorrow, her clothes are changed and she has her…

Antigua Price Buster

I just got off the phone with my sales rep for the resort and pricing for our week has been slashed. I know it sounds like a Big Eddie stereo commercial, but no one is sure how long this price will last. Honestly, it could be gone by the end of the day, or it could last for weeks. August 16-23 at the all inclusive Grand Pineapple Beach resort in Antigua for one adult and one child is $1256. One adult and 2 children is $1477.  This includes your meals,

Where is Haleigh Cummings?

While everyone is squawking about Octomom, this new story from Florida about Haliegh Cummings, a missing 5 year old girl from Putnam County Florida, really does not sit right with me at all.  From what I have seen on the news: Mom and Dad are unwed and Dad wins custody of two kids Both parents are in their mid-20s Mom lives about 2 hours away and see her children every two weeks Dad has known his 17 year old girlfriend for 3 to 4 months and she is living…

Kitty Snot & Poision Control

I was talking with a friend the other day laughing about the foolish things we had done in terms of parenting. While I will not toss him under the bus, I will share one* of my favorites. When my son was like 8 or 9 months, I was being a good husband and cleaning the house. I was working on the glass screen/storm door and it was loaded up with kitty snot. You know kitty-snot, when the cats press their wet noses against the glass. Well, it was not going…

Imagine, A Guy Asks For Directions!

I know, I know, Rule #2 of the Guy Manual explicitly states “Never ask for directions“; but I need some help. I want to really make this blog pop and need some help from you. What direction should we head? We can stick with strictly travel, or we can shift to more parenting or single dad/mom issues, or a mix of them all.  What do you think:

A Single Mom Tip From A Single Dad

As much as I would like to think this is a fair world, it is not. Try as we may, we can never get the ratio of single dads to single moms up to that 50:50.  But we will keep on trying. But here is a lead for the single moms that read our site (and please–this is not defeat) but I recently met (well it was online and on the phone) a great woman from the “other” coast. Rachel Sarah (the woman with two first names) has written a…

Santa’s A Bum!

Santa’s A Bum!

Why is it that opposing parents always need to get one up on each other.  If I buy an iPod Nano for my daughter, my ex will by the iPod Touch just to upstage me. It really ticks me off and really is it necessary? One Christmas, my ex and I shared our shopping lists for the kids. We usually talk about this and agree on a budget. Well, this particular Christmas, they were at Mom’s house and lo and behold don;t they get the SAME presents I had for…

A Single Dad Is My Hero

A Single Dad Is My Hero

This guy, Matt Logelin, has suffered incredible tragedy. In a matter of 27 hours he saw the birth of his daughter Madeline and the death of his wife Liz. He is a hero to me, because he has decided to tackle the issues head on and live (as sadly as it may be) for his daughter. Sure there was grief and profound sadness, but Matt has turned this into something good. He established the Liz Logelin Foundation to offer support to single widowed parents.   Matt tells his story on his
