Vacationing With Your Ex

Vacationing With Your Ex

Could you do it? I was reading an interesting article about vacationing with your ex as a way to keep tight with your kids. Most famously, Bruce Willis and Demi Moore have vacationed together successfully. I have done it–once, by accident. I was spearheading a fundraising cruise on the Carnival Fantasy from New Orleans and it was supposed to be “my week” with the kids.  When I called to check to make sure she knew I was planning a trip, she mentioned that it was no problem as she and…

Grrr. Teenage Girls!

Grrr. Teenage Girls!

To coin a popular teenage phrase, WTF? Can someone please try and explain what the triggers are that will turn a teenage girl from a funny, engaging, friend, into an evil creature that could not have been born–but spawned? This past weekend, was a perfectly good example. The local school district sponsored a Career Fair to get kids thinking about what type of career track they might want to pursue. We decided to check it out. We woke up on time, went out and had a yummy breakfast together. We…

Charlie Sheen: Single Dad

Charlie Sheen: Single Dad

Wow, I am conflicted this morning.  Charlie Sheen does indeed have his problems–booze, drugs, hookers, and off the wall antics and behavior. He has had his issues with his ex wives, Denise Richards with whom he had two girls; and is now separated from his current wife, Brooke Mueller–mother of their 2-year old twin boys. This may not be the most popular post I have ever written, but I have never heard any evidence that Charlie Sheen put any of his children in harm’s way. There are allegations of abuse…

A Sobering Thought On Texting

A Sobering Thought On Texting

I have one kid driving on his own. I have another one learning. I am nervous. When I was growing up, I needed to worry if the radio was too loud in the car. We did not have car phones, cell phones, or smart phones. Texting was not even a word. But today it is a lifestyle. To be honest, I almost think that it may be more of a danger than drinking and driving. My kids routinely send and receive thousands of texts each month. And while in Maryland…

A Bit Of Bragging

A Bit Of Bragging

Last weekend, my daughter went psycho. She and a friend decided that they wanted to help support Special Olympics here in Maryland.  That, in and of itself, is laudable; but how they decided to do it was questionable! The largest fundraiser for Special Olympics Maryland is a Polar Bear Plunge. They have them all over the world for various causes and for fun. The one here in Maryland is supposedly the largest and attracts 15,000 people to take a chilly dip into the Chesapeake Bay in the middle of winter. The…

Amy Chua: Good Or Evil Mom?

Amy Chua, has been a name in the news for a few weeks now. She is the New Haven, CT mother with a Chinese heritage that rules her roost with an iron fist.  She first appeared on the scene in a January 8 Essay in the Wall Street Journal entitled Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior (you really need to read it). Among the things that her two daughters have not been allowed to do are: attend a sleepover have a playdate be in a school play complain about not being…

I Got A Kindle For $1.21

How is that for a headline. But it is true–kind of.  There is a new company I discovered locally called CityCents.com and the best way I can describe them is the child that would result if eBay and Groupon hooked up! I will preface that my total out of pocket on the new Kindle was $32.15, but I am not complaining and I wanted to share it with you before it is really discovered. They do not do a great job of explaining the process on their site, so let…

When Humor Goes Bad

When Humor Goes Bad

I am known for my less than politically correct (and often tweaked) sense of humor. This morning, a friend sent over this link asking me what I thought. I guess I am the humor guinea pig or litmus test. FAIL! While I can laugh at the most ribald joke (and feel free to tell me one or ask me to tell one) this, in my mind, really crossed a line. Yes, I know it was intended to be humor, but we all know what happens when humor goes awry–can anyone…

11 Lessons To Prepare For Parenthood

I can only hope to be this creative at some point. I did not write this and tried to find the author, but was not successful, but wanted to share. I think we all can relate to many of these, but perhaps the most “relatable” one is the one that it is all worth it!  Can you relate? Please leave a comment and get the conversation started! Lesson 1 1. Go to the grocery store.
2. Arrange to have your salary paid directly to their head office.
3. Go home.…
