A Homeless Christmas

Certain events will get you. There are certain things that will tug at your heartstrings and Christmas morning was one of them. My kids were spending Christmas morning with their mom and I was preparing a feast later that day. In town, we have a homeless shelter and I have helped out in the past with bag lunch delivery, donations, etc. But on Christmas morning, I decided to go and help cook breakfast for 145 homeless people–men…women…single…families…black…white….it did not matter. I dragged my butt from bed (I rarely sleep on…

Today I Cried

Monday started off rough with the discovery that a long-time, trusted employee was…well let’s just say not so trustworthy. As I worked through that situation with the banks, insurance company, and police, I was relatively sure this week could not get any worse. Until this morning. As the news broke about the slaughter in Newtown, Connecticut, I sat dumbfounded. In the truest sense of the word, this was “unbelievable” to me. All of the usual questions came to mind. Well, since my kids have all tied for the top spot, let’s say the second greatest kids who ever lived! What happens when you have a love interest? Sure they are your confidante and will listen to you squawk and moan about the “other parent”…

When The Police Call At Midnight It Is Never Good News

To be honest, I count my blessings each day. For the most part, my kids are well behaved, polite, and seem to have their heads screwed on straight. Last night, I had my doubts as my cell phone woke me from a sound sleep. The good news is that there was not an accident; but the bad news was that there was a police officer on the other end of the line. It seems that my daughter (almost 18) was at a party that got a little out of hand…

An Empty Nest–Sort Of

This year is a big one for me!  I recently celebrated my 2nd 25th birthday and I feel fantastic. While the economy has everyone concerned, I am thankful that I can still put food on the table and a roof over the heads of my kids!  But not for long. You see, my son is 20 and has a VERY serious girlfriend so I have an inkling that he may be flying the coop pretty soon. He is in his second year of college at a local school. So, he…
