A Winner From Craigslist

And no, it was not me….. My deceased aunt gave my two kids a Cocker Spaniel a few months back. The dog has been a terror and become overwhelming for me. I am a single father raising two young children. I cannot face telling the kids that the dog must go. I have found a good home for the dog, and just need someone to transport the dog, and play the villain. Premise: You will be the dog walker hired by daddy (me) to walk Skittles. I will introduce

YTB Travel Warning

Just a brief heads up. With the economy in the tank, there are schemes that pop up all the time. One that has been around for a while is YTB Travel (yourtravelbiz.com). In a nutshell, it is a pyramid scheme where the money is made in recruiting others into the scheme. Last week, they were essentially shut down by the Attorney General in California for being an “endless chain” scheme and for deceptive advertising and business practices. They were fined $1 million dollaras.  As soon as the settlement was released,…

Goodbye Pete

My daughter’s parakeet died today.  It is strange, no matter how many hamsters, gerbils, lizards, guniea pigs, hermit crabs and other critters you bury, it is always a sad day. I was grilling on the deck and popped in to say hello to “Pete” who had been chirping up a storm a few hours ago. Initially, I didn’t see him and then made the discovery.  I am not one to really beat around the bush so I called down and let her know that Pete had died–not really knowing what…

Kid Logic: Help Needed

As a guy of forty something years old, I have still been unable to unlock the mystery of “woman logic”. I have given up.  But as a dad of 17 years, I thought I had the whole “kid logic” down till this afternoon. Maybe there comes a time when “kid logic” becomes obsolete and is replace by “woman logic”? My teen daughter “needed” some clothes and there is a cool consignment-ish store called Plato’s Closet, that has all the hip and cool clothes that teens jus “have” to have. …

Grand Pineapple Beach Pricing Is Gone!

The fantastic rates we were seeing at Antigua’s Grand Pineapple Beach Resort have gone away. While the pricing is still lower than our original price, the ridiculous $1250 for 2 for a week just went the way of the Dodo. I will be keeping an eye on this though.…

Apologies For Site Issue

Please accept my apologies for the site being down today!  Our domain expired and the domain registry people had an inactive email address, so I never received the “you better renew now or we are cutting you off” notices! Of course when I try to log in to renew, I don’t recall my password and they offered to send a password reminder to –you guessed it the email address that is inactive.  So after about two hours on the phone trying to convince them that I was actually me, it…

Antigua: Picture Perfect

There was a fantastic article in today’s Chicago Tribune about Antigua and their 365 beaches!  And one resort that runs about $1200 per night! But here is an impartial opinion from Chicago about the island. And yes, the rates are still very attractive!…
