Greetings From Brenda!

My travels the past year have been to several family friendly destinations as well as some interesting places across the globe.   Last Thanksgiving  we knocked off an item from our Bucket List and flew out to Bozeman, Montana for a long Wolf Watching Weekend in Yellowstone National Park.  Our private guide was Kevin Sanders, commonly known as Bearman  http://www.yellowstone-bearman.com/    This trip Is not for everyone as the winter weather in Yellowstone is very cold and there is a certain amount of standing around as one waits and hopes for…

Rambling On Gambling

Rambling On Gambling

Recently, we (Maryland) just approved an expansion on our gambling. We have had slot machines for a few years, but not long enough to really make a solid determination if they are generating the revenue they should for the State.  We were sold on them because so much of the revenue would go towards education. Provided the politicians did not raid the fund an put it elsewhere. On Election Day, we voted to allow another casino and to expand the existing ones to allow table games. In effect, allowing a…

Does Your Love Interest Have A Say In Child-Rearing?

I was having an interesting discussion the other day and thought it might be a great topic for discussion here.  You have a child and you (and perhaps the child’s other parent) is doing all they can to raise the greatest kid that ever lived. Well, since my kids have all tied for the top spot, let’s say the second greatest kids who ever lived! What happens when you have a love interest? Sure they are your confidante and will listen to you squawk and moan about the “other parent”…

How Much Do You Tell Your Kids?

As a parent, we want to make sure or kids want for nothing. But are we doing a disservice by not letting them know exactly why financial decisions are made? How much is too much to tell them and at what age? As single parents, life is challenging. There is no disputing that. As the owner of  Single Parent Travel, I hear a lot of stories about the trials and tribulations we all face. Job loss, home loss, wicked ex-spouse, health issues, medical issues, job stress…..  The list goes on.…

How To Really Vacation With Your Kids In Tow

Summer vacation is fast approaching and planning is already underway for fun trips to the beach, camping, and Disneyland. There are so many great places to go, but families with multiple children may be overwhelmed at the prospect of toting little ones around on a long vacation. With the proper planning though, vacations with kids can be fun and rewarding for everyone involved. Here are some key things to remember when vacationing with kids. Attention Span Children have a fairly short attention span. Break the day up into chunks for…

When The Police Call At Midnight It Is Never Good News

To be honest, I count my blessings each day. For the most part, my kids are well behaved, polite, and seem to have their heads screwed on straight. Last night, I had my doubts as my cell phone woke me from a sound sleep. The good news is that there was not an accident; but the bad news was that there was a police officer on the other end of the line. It seems that my daughter (almost 18) was at a party that got a little out of hand…

An Empty Nest–Sort Of

This year is a big one for me!  I recently celebrated my 2nd 25th birthday and I feel fantastic. While the economy has everyone concerned, I am thankful that I can still put food on the table and a roof over the heads of my kids!  But not for long. You see, my son is 20 and has a VERY serious girlfriend so I have an inkling that he may be flying the coop pretty soon. He is in his second year of college at a local school. So, he…

We’re Moving Down The Street

Just a quick update that we are in the process of moving our office to a new location literally down the street.  With that move comes the hassles of moving technology and equipment. While we hope to not have any interruption of service, with Comcast and Verizon, you never know.  The service is scheduled to be on at the new digs on Monday (and deactivated at the old one at the same time), but in case something goes awry, here is my cell number (443) 221-1184. Of course with a…

Beer Pong For Teens?

Beer Pong For Teens?

Well, OK so it is not really “beer’ pong, but my 14 year old was at a friend’s house over the long weekend and she was telling me how she and her friend soundly kicked the collective butts of two other friends in “soda pong.” OK, it is not beer and at 14 that is a good thing. But I did a double take as it seems like it is a bit of pre-gaming for the real thing.  I am not naive enough to think that they will not drink…

Rocking Horse Ranch Video

Last month, we ventured up to the Rocking Horse Ranch for a weekend full of riding, hiking, wrangling, eating, and generally having a great time for the single parents and their kids! Having recently switched to a Macintosh form a PC, I am still new on this whole iMovie deal, but here is a valiant effort!
