PACKING
LIST FOR LATIN AMERICA
One Week or longer ·
- One week's supply of socks and underwear (laundry service is
often slow in Latin America)
- 3-4 short sleeved shirts or cotton tops such as T-shirts
- 2 tank tops
- 1 long sleeve durable lightweight, light colored cotton shirt
which acts as a sun protector for daytime jungle hikes as well
as a mosquito protector for evening walks in jungle areas
- 2-3 pair of lightweight loose fitting slacks
- 1 pair of jeans (2 pair if traveling to the Andes Mountains)
- 1 or 2 pair shorts
- bathing suit
- raingear
- suitable foot gear for hiking and walking around cobblestone
streets
- hat (for sun protection) & sunglasses.
- 1 sweater or sweatshirt (rainy evenings can get chilly even
in the tropics).
- 2-3 bandanas, 3 hair bands
- sleepwear
- Personal toiletries such as toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo,
conditioner, shaving gear, moisturizing lotion, etc.
- Flashlight, batteries, pocket packs of tissues (for use in
public toilets), small travel-size sewing kit, all purpose pocket
knife, sink stopper for soaking laundry (not always present in
moderate-priced hotels)
- Small roll of electrical tape (comes in handy for a myriad
of things, including binding up gifts to take home), 1 large plastic
trash bag (handy for lots of things including covering your luggage
in the rain), 6 gallon-size and 6 quart-size zip-lock plastic
bags (handy for packing things that may leak while traveling or
carrying food snacks).
