Rocking Horse Ranch –November 12-14, 2010

Back On The Ranch

Mark the calendars and check back here this weekend for the details.  We will be returning to the Rocking Horse Ranch in November.

We initially considered a different ranch in the area, but without the benefit of having visited there (which I plan to do soon enough), it did not make sense to risk what we know is a good thing.

I am still working out the details and will have the flier up by the end of the weekend. I do know that they have raised their prices slightly. However, we are able to offer the old pricing for a period of time before it increased–the cutoff will likely be July 1, 2010.

Stay tuned!

I hope you’ll consider the other ranch in the future. It seems they offer more of an equestrian experience than RHR. RHR has changed a lot over the years and their prices have gotten quite high.

  2. Colleen says:

Something I am definetly interested in for me and my two boys. My one concern is that they are 5 and soon to be 3. Will they have other activities that the kids will be able to participate in besides the pool? Thanks!!

  3. John says:

@Heather–we most definitely are. It takes a good six to 8 months to organize and promote a group trip and there just was not enough time. RHR is a known entity to us and unfortunately, we have not been able to check out the other place. We hate surprises and without having seen the property, we are hesitant. However, we are headed up either this summer or early fall and if all looks right, we plan to offer it for our March 2011 trip.

@Colleen–your 3 year old will be no charge. As to other activities, there are a ton. The 5 year old is too young to do trail rides, but there are pony rides, game room, rock climbing walls, mini-golf, pool, indoor water park, BB range, archery range, paddle boats, fishing, basketball, a fun barn, kids camp, and more.

    John,
In New Jersey, the kids have off Nov 4 & 5 (teacher convention). It would have been nice to go that weekend! It always falls on the first week in November (FYI).

  5. John says:

    Hi Sandy–
Unfortunately, that weekend was not available for us as a group! I have been trying to get an earlier weekend in November, but it has been difficult!

  6. Michael says:

    Hi Colleen,
I am also traveling with a three year old and wondering the same thing so I haven’t signed up – did you get a response to your question? Is there anyone else traveling with younger children?

  7. John says:

Right not the youngest we have signed up is a 4 year old. Typically we are heavy between 6/7 and 14/15 but there are usually several in the 4 and under crowd when all is said and done. Also, while we do take over a good part of the Ranch, we don;t take over the whole thing so very likely there will be other younger children there–just not with our group.

  8. Jennifer says:

I am very interested in the November trip to RHR. WHat is the youngest age for trail rides? I have a 9 y.o. and, by Nov, an (almost) 7 y.o. WIll both be able to trail ride?
    Thanks!

  9. John says:

    Hi Jennifer–

The 9 year old is fine as they are supposed to be 7 to ride the trails. However, I have seen much younger kids on the trails if they are mature. If he is almost 7, I am sure he will be fine, but could not guarantee it.

  10. amy says:

does anyone know if you ride the amtrak to get there,, how would I get to the ranch from the station?

  11. John says:

Yes you can take Amtrak to Poughkeepsie (did I spell that correctly?) and it is about a $20 cab ride to the ranch–15 mins. But we can usually find someone that can pick you up–no guarantees, but we usually do ok coordinating those things!

  12. I am very excitment in the December trip to RHR.Can you tel me wHat is the youngest age for trail rides? I have a 12 year old. WIll both be able to trail ride?
    Thanks!

  13. John says:

Children need to be 7 to ride the trails unassisted. Under 7 there are pony rides available. However, this trip is NOT in December but in November!

  14. Karolina says:

    John,
Do you still have any openings? Thank you.

  15. John says:

    Hi Karolina–

We still do. Right now we have maybe half a dozen rooms left in the main lodge and then we will move to the Oklahoma building. A $200 refundable (till Oct 31) deposit will hold the space! I hope you can join us!

    John
