Caribbean Cruise April 5-12, 2009

Have you ever wanted to surf at sea? Maybe hang out in a hot tub 14 stories over the ocean as your ship heads to St. Maarten? Single Parent Travel is heading to the high seas again on Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas!

This is one of the newest in the fleet and was put in service in 2006. I have sailed on her twice and she is magnificent. From the kid’s clubs, to the Flow Rider, to the ice skating (yes, ice skating), there is never a dull moment.

Our port calls will take us from Miami to San Juan, St. Thomas and St. Maarten–all fantastic ports with a ton of culture, history and color.  We only were able to get 16 cabins for this fantastic cruise.

  1. We would have loved to have done this cruise if it had fit with our school vacation 4/10/19.

    Oh well.

  2. I just signed up for this cruise. I have 2 boys, one will be 10 at the time of the cruise, the other turns 15 the day we board the ship. Are there any other teens or younger boys signed up? Any other moms? Looking forward to the trip, San Juan looks like it has a lot to offer and the ship is an amusement park in and of itself.

  3. Hi John-

Where is the list of trips for 2009?

    Thanks,
    Cindy

  4. What we currently have is listed. I am planning on releasing some new ones this coming week and the next.

  5. I would love to take this cruise w/ my son. I am actually trying to plan a trip for my son (will be 13), and my nephews (14 & 17). Both my sister and I are single parents but I wanted to take them on a nice vacation. We were looking at cruises but WOW, they are so expensive. I wasn’t expecting the one that you have to be $1500 per person. Aren’t there any inexpensive cruises. I would think that most single parents can’t afford to splurge on trips of that cost…. Help!!!

  6. There are a lot of cruises out there that are less expensive and it is all a matter of what you are seeking. Carnival has shorter (3 or 4 day) cruises for considerably less. This cruise is on the Freedom of the Seas and it is one of the newer ships. The amenities on board are amazing.

The other issue is that we try to work around school vacations and that translates to high season.

If you are interested in this cruise, send me an email john@singleparenttravel.net and I can see about availability on some lower level interior cabins, or if your sister is looking to join you, it may be less expensive when you take a larger more luxurious cabin and put everyone in there together.

Of course, we woudl be happy to look at any other options for you as well, but they would not be a group.

  7. Wow this sounds awesome and coinsides with my school vacation. However am I nuts thinking of going at this time with a 3 and a half year old? :) Anyone else as nuts?

  8. A 3.5 year old will indeed have a blast. But, it will likely be an expensive blast. There is no break on pricing for the age. But if there is another child (or maybe a grandma or grandpop) where three can share the cabin, it is a lot more affordable.

This particular ship is designed to appeal to literally ALL ages.

  9. This cruise booked directly with Royal Caribbean started out at $799 for an inside cabin. The rate now is only $1099. You could save $200 if you just booked directly with the cruise line.

  10. Theresa–what you are seeing is the base price for the cabin. The price at SPT includes the port charges, taxes, transfers and NCF fees etc. Additionally, booking direct will not entitle you to the amenities we have negotiated nor will it include any of the private functions

  11. I have a 13 year old son and am thinking of signing up for this. Any other boys around his age? Looks like fun, we’ve never been on a cruise.

  12. There are 4 boys to date signed up 9, 10, 13, and 14.

  13. Anyone planning a trip for first week of April 2009? That is our “spring break”.

  14. New York City school breaks are 2/16 to 2/20 and 4/9 to 4/17. Is anyone here from NYC or in the northeast with the same timing?

  15. I’d love to go on this trip with my 8 yo son. But I’d hate to have to pay alot for plane tickets to FL and dealing with the additional hassle of coordinating time of flights. Can you arrange cheap flights to FL from NJ for this cruise? Alternatively, how about we get a contingent of Northeast single parents to go on the 4/4-4/11/09 Norwegian cruise from NYC to Bahamas?

  16. I am not sure there is a lot of space left on either of these sailings. The issue (in my eyes from New York) is the condition of the Atlantic. The Caribbean is much smoother and the Atlantic (especially in the winter/spring) can be very choppy and rough. I woudl be more than happy to look for you.

On this cruise, we can certainly look for airfare for you, or you can arrange it on your own. Coordinating is not a huge deal as we handle everything once you land in Florida. You can fly into Ft. Lauderdale or Miami and we recommend that you arrive no later than 1pm for a 4:30PM sailing. On the return, we recommend that you depart no earlier than 1pm. The ship begins disembarking at about 830:pm or 9:00 pm and by the time you clear customs it could be 9:30. We always suggest some wiggle room in case the ship is a bit late or there is an issue clearing customs or traffic.

If you want, send me an email john at singleparenttravel.net or a call and I will be more than happy to look into options for you 888-277-8543

  17. HI – From Boston here and our school vacation is the week of April 13th. I would be interested in future events for this vacation week. This one won’t be for us but I want to share that the week of December 15th I took my boys (10 and 24) to the Nick Hotel in Orlando and it was wonderful – prices were less than half because it is a week at 20% occupancy. Free bus to the parks – and discounts. Lots to do on property. Rooms start at 109.

  18. Great tip Marie. Unfortunately we cannot get all the school schedules to coincide. I need a connection at the Dept of Education!

I agree that between Thanksgiving and Christmas is fantastic to head to Disney. All decked out for the holidays, fantastic weather, not too many people and great pricing.

  19. Hi John! As I posted on your facebook wall, lol, I’m looking for something to do with my kids the same week as the cruise. I couldn’t afford to pay the price you had listed this time, plus airfare, although we’ve been on the Freedom in the past and it is an AWESOME ship. Any other suggestions for a place to take a 10 and 13 yr. old? I’m fine and up for anything! I have done the philly, dc and boston thing with them already. Baltimore looks like it’s ok but my kids aren’t that into too much history and using your 1/3 1/3, 1/3 rule, I am not sure I’d find enough for them to pick in their 2/3rds say… They’ll do some museum type stuff but well you know kids…. I will fly as long as airfare isn’t extremely costly… or drive. They have the entire week off but I’d like to be back either Thurs. (so I’m home for Good Friday) or Sat. so at least I’m home for Easter. Let me know what you think since you are an east coast world traveler :)
    Thanks !

  20. Would my son require a passport to go to St. Maarten? He doesn’t have one (his s.o.b. father refused to sign the application). Are there any spots left on this cruise?

  21. For now passports are not required, but recommended. A birth certificate for your son woudl be acceptable.

Right now, there are less than 60 cabins available on the ship in various categories. If you are interested, please send me an email and I can see what is available and get a price to yo.

  22. Is there anything on the West Coast for single parents. Spring Break is April 6-10. We live in CA. My daughter is almost 9 years old. She loves anything with horseback riding and swimming?
    Thanks!

  23. Hi Kelly-

Right now we don;t have anything for the spring break, but we will be posting two cruises from the west coast in the bext week. One will be a short cruise from San Diego to Cabo and Ensenada. The other will likely be a longer cruise from Los Angeles. I plan to have them up later this week.
